L&S MAJORS

Is graduate school your goal? If it is - or even if it might be - it's not too early to plan how you're going to get there.

Statistics

Statistics is a branch of mathematics that uses probability theory and deals with the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of numerical data. The major in Statistics is designed to prepare students to enter the job market directly as statisticians in either the public or private sectors of the economy. At the same time, it provides a sound foundation for students who wish to pursue the M.A. or Ph.D. degree.

Lower Division Requirements for the Statistics Major

  • Mathematics 1A-1B, 53, 54

Recommended: Statistics 2, 20, 21, or 25; familiarity with computer programming

Note: Mathematics 53 and 54 must be completed with a minimum grade of C in each course.
