Social Welfare

The Social Welfare major introduces students to problems, policies, and methods in the area of providing educational, cultural, medical and financial assistance to the needy. The curriculum focuses on courses which acquaint students with current knowledge about the field, rather than vocational training.

Lower Division Requirements and Prerequisites for the Social Welfare Major

(prerequisites indicated by asterisks)

Note: Enrollment limits are in effect for the Social Welfare major.

  • Psychology 1 or 2*
  • Sociology 1, 3, or 3AC*
  • Statistics 2, 20, 21, or equivalent*
  • Completion of the L&S reading and composition requirement*

Note: A minimum grade of C is required for each course in the major.

Recommended: Anthropology 3, Economics 1, Political Science 1.
