The folks here at L&S Advising are working hard to improve how you get the help and information you need to thrive at Cal. So we can concentrate our efforts where they'd benefit you the most, we'd like to know which media you currently use - and which you'd prefer to use - to reach us. It's only two questions long, how hard is that?!

Political Economy of Industrial Societies

The interdisciplinary Political Economy of Industrial Societies (PEIS) program offers students a chance to study the nature of problems and opportunities with which industrial societies are confronted and to understand better how problems may be solved and opportunities seized. The program assigns first priority to the historical, comparative, and analytical study of what industrial societies have in common and how they differ. Students in the program design interdisciplinary plans of study in consultation with their faculty adviser. Within individual study plans, particular emphasis is placed on the institutions and values that have shaped, and sometimes created, contemporary events.
