Latin American Studies

Latin American Studies focuses on the history, culture and environment of Latin America and offers a broader perspective than is available in a single department major, such as history or Spanish. The group major in Latin American Studies may be of particular interest to: 1) students desiring a general education focused on the Latin American cultural regions; 2) students planning to enter business, government, or international agency service; and 3) students preparing to teach social science or language.

Lower Division Requirements and Prerequisites for the Latin American Studies Major

(prerequisites indicated by asterisks)

  • Latin American Studies 10* (minimum grade of C required)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese equivalent to four college-level semesters
  • History 8A* or 8B*
