Italian Studies

The distinctive role played by Italy through the centuries in the development of Western civilization is universally recognized. The study of Italy's language, literature and film puts the student in direct contact with Italy's rich cultural heritage and remarkable literary and cinematic production. Beyond lower division language instruction, the Department of Italian Studies offers a series of upper division courses that provide advanced training in language as well as courses in Italian literature that cover all the major authors and periods, from Dante to the contemporary scene. The relatively small size of the department allows for a highly favorable faculty-to-student ratio in classes and ample opportunity for personal response to students' needs. Many students also combine their interest in Italian Studies with a double major in either a related major, or focus on acquiring a minor in Italian Studies by taking the required courses.

Think Globally!
Study the Languages and Cultures of the World.
Becoming bilingual or trilingual prepares culturally astute students as tomorrow's leaders in business, law, the sciences, and virtually any career path.
