French

Students in the undergraduate major in French acquire a considerable degree of competence in the written and spoken language and gain familiarity with the literature and culture of France and the French-speaking world. The department offers a large selection of courses in composition, stylistics, translation and linguistics, as well as the opportunity to examine French film historically and critically.

Lower Division Requirements for the French Major

  • French 1, 2, 3, 4, and 35, or the equivalents
