Asian Studies

Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary program that provides students with a groundwork in an Asian language, a familiarity with the theories and methods of one particular discipline, and a broad range of interdisciplinary course work in either China or Japan. Students accepted into the major are expected to choose both a regional focus and a disciplinary focus.

Lower Division Requirements and Prerequisites for the Asian Studies Major

(prerequisites indicated by asterisks)

  • Asian Studies 10*
  • One hisory course from approved list* (minimum grade of C required in each)
  • Two semesters of language appropriate to area of specialization (Area I: China; Area II: Japan)
