Courses in Practice of Art are based on the notion that art making is a process of discovery, that process and product are inseparable, that intelligence resides in the hands as well as the mind, that both intuitive and reasoned responses have a place in investigating our worlds. The courses are designed to help you think visually. They will also help you understand how resourcefully artists have responded to their circumstances and to change throughout history. As you work, you will become familiar with both traditional and nontraditional approaches to art making. You will be exposed to a broad range of viewpoints that challenge the assumption that there is only one way to understand and appreciate art. Lower Division Requirements for the Practice or Art Major
