Anthropology
Anthropology is the scientific study of human beings and their cultures. The discipline includes physical anthropology, archaeology, and sociocultural anthropology. The Department of Anthropology at Berkeley is rated among the best in the country. Anthropology faculty members teach and do research on a wide range of issues including human origins, folklore, religion, social organization, culture change, cultural ecology, tourism, and social inequality. In addition, courses are regularly given on most of the major culture areas of the world.
Lower Division Prerequisites for the Anthropology Major
- Anthropology 1, 2 or 2AC, 3 or 3AC
Note: All three courses are prerequisites for admission to the major, but students may apply for admission while completing the third prerequisite.
